So my good friend told me that Chronicle was good, very sad but good; so I braced myself when I popped it into the DVD player at night and settled with my bowl of cereal onto my favorite spot on the couch.
This was also right before my 2:30 am at Carl's Jr for free food, but that's another post.
She was right, the plot was pretty simple. It revolves around three high school kids who come across a hole containing a high pitch squealing u.f.o device, that when they wake up, find themselves gifted with telekinetic and at first it is funny as they experiment and mess around. But, then it starts getting darker as one boy especially realizes that his power can be used to try and eliminate the hurt he feels. He starts believing he is an Apex Predator; the highest and best on the food chain.
And as he starts shying away, his friends try to reach out, to no avail.
Towards the end I had abandoned my bowl of soggy cereal and watched as consequences began to occur. I got to see both sides, the abuser and the savior. And the results of their battle.
I know, that I would love to have that power and I wish I could say that I would never abuse it. But, what about those times when you have felt so angry, hurt and raw that pushing someone through a wall would just feel, so liberating. Would I become an Apex predator as well or have the strong will to resist it. All I know is if I come across a screeching psychedelic hole, I'd probably walk right in.
A definite cult classic Grade: B
