I like to take walks,
On moonlit nights where the wind is calm and the sky is clear.
I walk down the path that weaves through the small blades of green,
To a large circle in the middle of which was a pond.
One day as I was walking there,
I noticed a large willow next to the pond.
This was new in what I had never seen, it was an old willow yet it was not there before.
It was rooted into the ground in a way,
That said that it had been there long.
I went to the tree and stood before it. "Why are you here tree? You were not here before, and yet you appear before me now!"
Then to my utter surprise,
In a soft and weak whisper the tree replied "the assistance of one can lead to the inspiration of many."
I was puzzled. Never had I,
Been spoken to in such a way that seemed to present a riddle,
Even though it was evident that there was none.
I replied in my own voice "Then why speak to me tree? There are many who would need you're assistance yet you speak to me!"
It whispered back in its gentle and soothing voice "For in ones mind I am here, an the others mind I am driven."
I was confused deeply by this tree,
It had given me reasons to run away and yet still there I stood,
Talking to the tree.
"Tree, you vex me. You have drawn me to believe that I must see you again."
I left after that and came back the next day,
I had told a friend of the event and he had wished to see.
We walked to the pond and saw,
That the tree was not there.
My friend promptly declared me mad and left.
I stayed near the pond for nearly an hour thinking of whether or not to believe him,
Then I went home.
The next night I walked down the path once more and I had seen a peculiar sight, the tree had returned,
And it was in the same place.
I walked up to the tree and asked it "tree, why were you not here the other night? When I had brought a friend to witness such a sight?"
It replied simply "the assistance of one can lead to the inspiring of many."
Yet it still fed me riddles,
Repeating it's words from the other night.
"But tree, if I cannot let you assist anyone then why do you speak to me?"
It replied in it's soothing whisper,
"For my assistance can be given to only one, and that one would lead to give assistance to more."
It perplexed me greatly yet I stayed,
I stayed by the tree for I had a puzzle to put together.
A train of riddles in which I was tied.
I arrived back one day and the tree was still there,
I had not brought another person.
I was still baffled at why the tree chose me with which to speak.
"Tree? You speak to me each day and you tell me things that make me need to think. Why did you choose me to speak to?"
"The assistance of one can lead to the inspiration of many."
The tree replied in the whisper,
That still calmed and confused me.
I looked away and tried to look back over the last days.
"But it makes no sense. I cannot find anyone you could help."
The wind blowed softly as if it expressed a sigh.
"The words of one can change the lives of all who hear forever."
I looked up at the moon and the wind blew once more.
Then it clicked. "you came to assist me?... Tree?"
I turned toward the tree but it had vanished.
How could my words influence the many?
I left that day and begun my journey from the lesson I had learned from the tree.
That time spent thinking,
Could be spent giving to others,
And guiding their way.
As the tree had guided mine.
